Using the ritual
What is the ritual?
VELLUM is three products, timed to the life of your tattoo. Cleanse is for morning and evening. Soothe is for fresh ink, through the first weeks. Preserve is for daily, long-term care once your tattoo has settled.
Each one has directions on its pack. Your artist’s advice always comes first.
Can I use it on a fresh tattoo?
Your artist’s advice always comes first. Every artist has their own way of caring for new work in the first days, and they know your piece. Follow what they’ve told you.
When your artist is happy for you to start using your own products, that’s when the ritual begins. If you’re not sure when that is, ask them.
How do I use the three products?
Start with clean hands.
- Morning and evening: Cleanse on damp skin. Rinse. Pat dry with clean paper towel.
- The first weeks: a thin layer of Soothe. Skin should look moisturised, not coated.
- Once settled: Preserve, every day, for every piece you have.
The directions printed on each pack are the final word.
When do I switch to Preserve?
Soothe is for the first weeks after your session. Once your tattoo has settled, Preserve takes over, for daily, long-term care. Soothe hands over to Preserve, so you don’t use both at the same time.
Your artist can tell you when your piece has settled. Preserve is for every tattoo you have, not just the newest one.
How long do they last, and how should I store them?
Each pack carries a 12M symbol. It means use within 12 months of opening. Store below 25°C and away from direct sunlight.

Cleanse and Soothe: [to confirm]
The full ingredient lists are in “What’s in each product?”, so you can check for yourself.
Should I do a patch test?
We suggest one, especially if you have sensitive skin or you’ve reacted to skin products before.
- Put a small amount of the product on a small area of skin away from your tattoo, such as your inner forearm.
- Leave it for 24 hours.
- If your skin feels fine, you’re ready to go. If you notice a reaction, don’t use that product.
Every pack carries this caution:
Suitable for all skin types. For external use only. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Keep out of reach of children. Store below 25°C and away from direct sunlight.
What if I have allergies or sensitive skin?
Check the full ingredient list for each product before you use it. Look for anything you know you react to, including ingredients such as beeswax, shea butter, sunflower seed oil, castor seed oil or aloe.
If you’re unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start. If irritation occurs, stop using the product. As the label says: “Discontinue use if irritation occurs.”

Returns

Yes, if it’s unopened and unused, with the seal and packaging intact. Email us within [Returns window] of delivery and we’ll tell you what to do next.
The full details are on the shipping and returns page.
Why can’t I return opened products?
Cosmetics go on your skin, so for hygiene reasons we can’t take back opened or used products if you’ve simply changed your mind.
This doesn’t affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If a product is faulty, damaged or not as described, you’re entitled to a remedy, whether it’s opened or not.
What if my order arrives damaged, or something is wrong?
Email us with your order number and a photo of the item and its packaging. We’ll replace it or refund you.
I bought on Amazon. How do I return it?
Returns for Amazon orders go through Amazon. Start from your orders in your Amazon account. If you have a question about the product itself, we’re happy to help at hello@vellum.au.

Write to hello@vellum.au. Please include your order number if it’s about an order.
